Alexey Brodovitch - a Russian photographer, designer and instructor, most famous for his art direction of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar from 1938 to 1958.
Vince frost says that he is inspired by creatives with a real understanding of problems, problem solving and are able to “eliminate all the crap” to make something simple.
These spreads use large images as the basis for the entire layout. The text often follows the curves, angles and contours of the image, and with a good understanding of composition in photography Brodovitch is able to create a similar feeling from the white space in his design. Photography is definitely an aspect which can accentuate the design massively.
View Larger My lack of updates lately have been because I have been putting together a biannual publication of comics here in Bergen, Norway with some buddies of mine. I feel like this sort of thing was happening on such a large scale in Brooklyn— and I’d like to bring some of that energy here to this city. Each issue will be created by pairing a seemingly banal and absurd subject with the word “comic” (i.e. Vegetable comic, Girlfriend comic,Vagabond comic etc) Anyways, I wanted to tease it’s release in mid march with the cover I just illustrated. I will have my first longer comic in it (12 pages) and I am really excited to see this all finally coming together. More updated to come soon!
Shout out to my buddies who helped contribute and put this together! Check out some of their work:
